While I make the website and lessons as fun as possible what is taught is extremely serious and invaluable. Lil' Swimmer Aquatics teaches children from about 6 months to 7 years survival swimming skills based on the proven PediaSwim methodology for children in the Apollo Beach, Ruskin, Riverview and Brandon areas. They learn appropriate swimming postures which allow them to rotate into a back float position to rest and breathe. This important skill will prepare your child should they fall into the water. Children also learn to swim between adults, pool steps and pool edge to improve their skills and for fun. Infants and toddlers are taught to swim, roll completely over onto their backs to float and breathe. They are able to remain in this position for a very long time, even while fully clothed.
The focus for infant swimming lessons is survival. Florida had the highest unintentional drowning death rate of toddlers ages 1-4 in the
United States in the 5 years between 1999 and 2003 (CDC WISQARS). Florida’s high overall
unintentional drowning death rate is driven up by its 1-4 year old rate, which is
the highest in the nation and 3 times the national rate (CDC WISQARS). Seventeen percent of all 1,190 unintentional drowning deaths of Florida residents in
the 3 years between 2002 and 2004 were in the 1-4 year old age group, more than
any other age group. This statistic is alarming. While no child is drown proof, the good news is with education and supervision, drowning is preventable. Click to see the latest drowning statistics.
Teaching infants and young children survival swimming is an important fight against pediatric drowning. To protect their children, parents need to understand the importance of mastering swimming skills and an ability to survive unexpectedly falling into the water.
I teach a comprehensive swimming education and self-rescue skill instruction method that is well established and has been in use for years. Methods are based on physiology, anatomy, child psychology and other disciplines to ensure the best experience for your child.
